What people are saying about Dick...

Hermann Schwabe
(former Deputy Mayor Maroochy Shire Council, Councillor for 22 years)
"Dick Newman can be relied upon to protect the life-style values of Montville that I championed for 16 years.  Dick has my unqualified support as your new councillor for division 5".

Anna Grosskreutz
(current Caloundra City Councillor and candidate for SCRC Division 1)
"Dick's only agenda is to serve his community professionally. No Politics, no games. He has been a pleasure to work alongside".

Paul Gilmour-Walsh
(retired Naval officer, Maleny resident, active community organisation participant)
"Dick Newman supports transparency and  community involvement and upholds the tenets of democracy. He is a great supporter of the RSL. He provided funding for us to keep the Maleny RSL Memorial Hall in good order and was the only Councillor who could convince Council to grant a general rate exemption for the Hall. Dick is supporting for us to use a Council generator during times of emergency as the Maleny Memorial Hall is an Evacuation Centre in the Council’s Counter Disaster Plan. I'm very happy with Dick Newman and believe he is the best councillor we have had in recent years".

John Stephen
(Suncoast Cycling Alliance)
"Dick understands the issues we face; realizes that bike paths have their place, but not as a whole. Recognises that there also needs to be adequate bike lanes put in place to cater for certain commuters. Would push for end of trip facilities. Will push cycling forward within Div 5".

Peter Stevens
(Arley Farm - primary producer and tourism business operator)
"Dick's help in promoting cultural tourism in the hinterland has been great for our business".

John Wildman
(retired Maleny resident)

"Having been involved in political and union organisations and ratepayer groups since 1950, I am well used to dealing with councillors and politicians. So, I look with some cynicism at the promises of certain candidates for the new Sunshine Coast Council.

For example, on arrival in Maleny in November 1989 I went to the Maleny Society (later becoming the Maleny Ratepayers Association) to see what it was all about. After 12 months I became its secretary and I held that position or president until elected to the Citizens Advisory Group focussing on the Local Area Plan process.

On building a home in 1989 I scrapped the planned septic tank and was the first on the Range to install a Household Sewerage Treatment Plant to be environmentally friendly. I fought the Council for 15 years to end the financial discrimination against owners of HSTPs, and got no help from those councillors in the early 90s, including Winston Johnson.

Jill Jordan was the first councillor who responded to our appeals for help and she willingly attended our meetings.  Before Jill you may as well have talked to a brick wall as got help from a councillor.

A breath of fresh air went through Caloundra Council when Dick Newman was elected to Division 1. From my 57 years of experience with councillors in local government, I can say Dick Newman has been the best councillor I have ever dealt with. He replies to you, nothing is ever a trouble, and he gives useful guidance on how to put requests to Council.

From my experience which I believe very few in the Maleny community could match, I urge you to VOTE DICK NEWMAN 1".

Rob Parker
(local business person in private enterprise for over 30 years, past president of Maleny Chamber of Commerce)
"Dick has the right background to bring financial accountability to this Council - something that's long overdue. He's proven his ability to work as a team member in many community groups."

Lloyd & Shirley Larney
(resident since 1969; CCC Citizen of the Year 2004)
"I've known Dick & Debbie for quite a few years. Dick's got the community at heart and he'll do his utmost to help us out."

David Knobel
(24 year old Youth Mentor with the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre / recent Sunshine Coast university student)
"Dick is approachable. He doesn't fob me off because I'm a young person. He bridges the generation gap."
